I was sad to read this morning of the death of Herbert Vogel yesterday. It was only within the last year or two that I watched a documentary on the Vogels, and I was struck by many things, but I was reminded, above all else, that the collector is probably not who you think he or she is.
My head is spinning from the recent discovery of Gavin Bryar's 'Jesus' Blood (never failed me yet)' (with Tom Waits). Anyone familiar with either me or my work will know that I am hardly a religious person, so please don't think for a moment that I have converted. In fact this, if I were a composer, is perhaps something I might have produced myself. To put it into some kind of context, the background story is here on Bryar's website.
