I love the textures here. There were terrible storms across Europe on Boxing Day 1999, and many regions of France suffered. Several huge oaks were uprooted in the 'garden' here (it isn't a garden at all, particularly since it is usually populated by sheep). Most of the wood was cleared away long before I first came here, leaving sections of trunk and massive root systems pointing scraggy fingers at the sky. Slowly but relentlessly the wood is being attacked by weather and insects, and steadily disappearing back into the earth. The changes are not always obvious, and you have to keep looking, because the subtle changes can result in something startling. I took this picture an hour or so ago, knowing that tomorrow it may not look the same.
